A personal experience

related by Alan Mannering

This website contains facts, information and personal experiences of haemochromatosis

This is a simple website dealing mainly with health problems of which either I or a family member or close friend have first hand knowledge. You will see that not all of the subjects are directly medical - seriously debilitating health problems can be brought on by stress and worry, so I have included subjects which I know can cause a lot of anxiety confusion and distress

Review of the

Hemochromatosis Cook Book
by
Cheryl Garrison

It is now some years since I met Cheryl at an Iron Disorders conference in Washington and I recall being very impressed with her knowledge of haemochromatosis and her dedication to spreading the word. This was especially so concerning dietary considerations for sufferers of the complaint

The Hemochromatosis Cook Book is a no nonsense cook book compiled and modified by Cheryl to reduce the content of iron in every day foods. The book contains more than 200 recipes of different types of food suitable for folks like us.All of the tested recipes also contains details of iron content and other chemical contents

Her book contains very useful tables showing at a glance contents of various food ingredients and there is a chapter on diabetes for heamochromatosis which is fairly usual symptom

The book is packed with invaluable information about the amount of iron and the types of iron in food stuffs and there is a comprehensive glossary and index and it is produced as a colourful inexpensive paper back. Thoroughly recommendes

The Iron Disorders Institute Guide to Hemochromatosis:
This book has been my bible and reference book for many years and I have never found another book that is so clearly written and so well structured as it deals with many problems through case studies and has a comprehensive index. This is the only book once offered for sale by the British Society. It is authoritative and well written and I would not be without a copy.
Living with Hemochromatosis:
This is a most interesting and informative book that explains fullt the impact of hemochromatosis on the body and equally as importantly its impact on the emotions. A very well written and well presented book. Indispensable to those recently diagnosed with this little known illness.

Hemochromatosis Webster's Timeline:
An interesting book for the professional which lists the chronological events in the history of hemochromatosis and would prove invaluable to research and those students doing medical research dissertations
Sexual Dysfunction (Fast Facts Series)

Sexual dysfunction is a large physiological and psychological problem of modern living and can cause much distress. This inexpensive English paper-back, whilst written for clinicians will give all interested persons a good overview of many aspects of the condition

October 2011 - Sophie Lee from the States has brought to my attention her help line for IBS and as feel very strongly that there is a link between Haemochromatosis and IBS I'm mentioning it here.
Sophie has also written an interesting book on the subject. Contact: www.ibstales.com

Kindle in use by Alan Mannering

Have you considered a Kindle?

As far as the Kindle is concerned..... don't be put off because it is a new-fangled piece of technology or because 'it isn't the same as holding a book' ! Of course its new technology and of course it isn't like holding a book, but most people reading this are computer literate and the Kindle is basically a compact computer, so if you can use the machine you're reading this on, then you'll easily cope with a Kindle. The Kindle is smaller and lighter than a book, very neat and portable in fact. Click on the picture on the right and read more about them, I do most thoroughly recommend them especially if your eyes are giving you trouble reading. As you can see from the photo of me on the left, you can use it outside in sunlight. You know how housewives say that their Aga is 'the friend in the kitchen', well, my Kindle is 'my friend in my pocket'.
Best wishes to you all
Alan
